If the parents approve of the way their child dresses, then it should be okay with the school. If the child is dressed in a vulgar way (too much hiney showing or way too much cleavage, etc) then it's time to look at the parents......however, the town you're referring to, parents might not see vulgar the same way we do. The movie 'Deliverance' comes to mind ;)
I totally agree with the girl in detention because she colored some of her hair purple and the kids with nose rings, lip rings etc......let them be. I understand some will take it to the maximum limit but I do think you're right that kids skip out of school because of so many rules. It's important that kids learn rules and how to abide by them, but some of the rules are a little too strict. Kind of the same way with churches.....I grew up having to dress a certain way and act a certain way in church......although I agree to a point, it's amazing how many more people are now in church now that many of them have 'relaxed' the dress code. It's okay now to go to some churches in jeans and tennis shoes.....and yes, I have and I'm MUCH more comfortable doing so. Schools could learn a little bit from this. R-E-L-A-X and let these kids breathe a little for a change!! Now I'm done!!
